Knives

There are some things that Scout need to know about handling, using, caring for of knives.  But in NSW we also have to be careful about the carrying of knives.

In general there is is list of prohibitive knives which can be found from the NSW Police Force website.

In general from what I've found is that you need to have a lawful purpose to carry a knife.  It always a good idea to store it if your are travelling by car in the boot.

it is illegal in NSW for someone to sell a knife under the age of 16.

This is general advice and does not form a legal opinion, and advise should be sort from the appropriate authorities.

Fires

Fires are very dangerous and destructive, but also beneficial.  This all depends on where they happen, when they happen, is property or animals or people involved.

In NSW we have National Parks and State Forests controlled by different bodies.

Firewood Collection

You can find the policy on firewood collection through the Office of Environment & Heritage, part of the NSW government.

Fire prevention

The are rules around when and where you can light a fire, and it can differ depending on if it's an open fire or using gas.

In NSW you need to keep an eye on the Fire Danger Rating and if there is a Fire Ban in place.  Usually the fire ban is in place from October to April, but check with the NSW Rural Fire Service.
